Geoscience for society, education and environment

The trasnformation of our world into a more sustainable and resilient society is strongly relying on the geo-scientific achievements in various fields of its sphere of concern. The geo-scientific knowledge and exprertise has an important role in many areas of the economy and it is expected to be a robust support for solving crucial society issues such as the rising demand for energy (identifying hydrocarbon-bearing structures and monitoring the oil and gas fields, supporting the efforrts for green energy sources by scanning for the thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth), minerals (by identifying critical mineral deposits) and clean water supplies.

At the same time, geoscience is a key factor to sustain the general actions for a clean environment (rapid investigation of soils for detecting polluted zones or for a proper management, to indetify CO2 storage sites) and resilient infrastructure. In order to address these technoloy capacity, it is required a common action of multidisciplinary teams that rely on geoscientists and their expertise.
